Do I need specific workout equipment?
Nope! With The Essentials Plan, you'll be given three options to choose from:
1) Fully-equipped commercial gym
2) Home Gym: you have dumbbells (ideally light, medium, and heavy) AND resistance bands AND a Swiss ball
3) Little or no equipment: you have no equipment at all or you have some equipment but not everything listed in the Home Gym option
I'm new to working out, and the few "beginner" workouts I've tried have been way too hard for me. Will yours be different?
Yes! I've designed the beginner programs for TRUE beginners. That means that, for most beginners, the workouts will be totally do-able but still challenging. If you’ve been dealing with unique challenges - like carrying significant extra weight, managing a long-term illness, or being inactive for many years - and you’re concerned the workouts might still feel too tough, don’t worry - I've got options for you:
OPTION 1
Go with the Essentials Plan, but begin with baby steps. Start by only doing the warm up exercises for each workout. Eventually add in just a few reps of each of the main exercises. Add extra rest between exercises as needed. After a few months, you can restart the program to Day 1 and begin doing more of the main exercises (just email me when you're ready and I'll set it up) or continue with the regular program flow.
OPTION 2
Opt for thefully customized Signature Plan. We'll start with a physical assessment to figure out exactly where you're at right now, and I'll design a program that is perfectly suited for you and you alone.
How long will it take for my program to be ready?
When you sign up for the Free Trial or The Essentials Plan, your program will be ready about 5-10 minutes after you complete the required forms. How is it ready so fast? These plans are customized based on just 3 variables (fitness level, goal, and available equipment), so I'm able to pre-design programs for every contingency, and then they're ready to go when you sign up.
Are your programs made by AI?
Blasphemy! Ok, no one has ever actually asked me this, but I think it would be a valid question, so here's the answer. Nope. Right now AI produces really run-of-the-mill, unidimensional training programs and that's not what I want to offer. The programs that I develop offer a lot more in terms of variety, functional fitness, injury prevention, balance, mobility/flexibility, and overall well-being.
Will I automatically be charged for a paid plan when my free trial ends?
Nope. No payment information is collected for the free trial so there's no risk that you'll be charged for a paid subscription after the trial ends.
Will I receive any further emails from you after the Free Trial ends?
After the trial ends I'll send you exactly 2 emails as friendly reminders for you to sign up for a plan. If you don't want to receive these then, at any point during the free trial, you can unsubscribe from my email list. You'll see a link to unsubscribe at the bottom of every email.
How do I cancel my plan subscription?
For members with complimentary access (Free trial / I Do Good Program):
Just follow THIS LINK to go to the cancellation form. After you submit the form, you'll receive an email asking you to confirm that you want to cancel your subscription. Just respond YES, and your access will be cancelled immediately.
For members with a paid membership (Essentials or Signature plan)
Just follow THIS LINK to manage your subscription. Once you cancel your subscription you'll still have access to the app until the end of your current billing cycle.
I have a health issue. Will I need my doctor to complete a medical clearance form before I begin?
Right after you sign up you'll be asked to fill out a short health screening form (the Par-Q form) to assess whether you need medical clearance. If you answer YES to one or more questions on the form, then you will need your doctor to complete a Medical Clearance Form for you before you can begin the program. The medical questions on the Par-Q form are as follows:
1) Has your doctor ever said that you have a heart condition or high blood pressure?
2) Do you feel pain in your chest at rest, during your daily activities of living, OR when you do physical activity?
3) Do you lose balance because of dizziness OR have you lost consciousness in the last 12 months? Please answer NO if your dizziness was associated with over-breathing (including during vigorous exercise).
4) Have you ever been diagnosed with another chronic medical condition (other than heart disease or high blood pressure)?
5) Are you currently taking prescribed medications for a chronic medical condition?
6) Do you currently have (or have had within the past 12 months) a bone, joint, or soft tissue (muscle, ligament, or tendon) problem that could be made worse by becoming more physically active? Please answer NO if you had a problem in the past, but it does not limit your current ability to be physically active.
7) Has your doctor ever said that you should only do medically supervised physical activity?
If you answer YES to one or more questions on the form:
Step 1: Download the fillable PDF Medical Clearance Form HERE
Step 2: Tell your doctor which questions you answered with a "YES" on the PAR-Q and ask them to complete the Medical Clearance Form.
Step 3: Email the completed Medical Clearance Form to carolyn@carolyntrains.ca (to protect your private health information please password-protect the form before sending, and send me the password in a separate email). If your doctor has indicated that your physical activity must be limited in some way, it may not be possible for you to follow the programs in the Free Trial or Essentials Plan. Before signing up for a plan let me take a look at the Clearance Form.
Step 4: If your doctor has indicated that you're cleared for an exercise program with no limitations, go ahead and sign up for a plan! When prompted, answer the medical questions on the Par-Q form truthfully. Once I review your Medical Clearance Form I'll activate your program.
Will Watson be in all the workout videos?
Watson (my cranky dachshund) is a busy guy. Most of his day is spent hunting down stray Cheerios that have rolled under the couch or slipped between cushions. It’s a serious job, and he tackles it like a seasoned detective. Between his Cheerio-hunting duties and time spent pining at the front door for his favorite family members (I'm last on the list), he can't always make it into the workout videos. He sends his deepest regrets.
